Transform Milk into Plastic

Chemistry

Materials:
  • dairy milk

  • white vinegar

  • mixing bowl

  • mug

  • mixing spoon

  • food coloring and/or glitter (optional)

  • measuring cups

  • 4 pieces of paper towel

  • cookie cutters

  • colored markers

Procedure:
  1. Pour out a cup of milk into your mug and microwave the milk on 50% power for 5 minutes.

  2. Measure and pour out 4 teaspoons of white vinegar into your mixing bowl.

  3. Pour the hot milk into the bowl with the vinegar. Be careful of your hot milk though!

  4. Mix the milk and vinegar together. Curds should start forming.

  5. Continue mixing for another 1-2 minutes or until your mixture starts to cool down a little.

  6. Place your 4 pieces of paper towel on a surface that won't get ruined if it gets wet.

  7. Use your mixing spoon to strain out all the curds and transfer them onto your paper towel stack.

  8. Fold the edges of your paper towels in and absorb as much of the excess liquid as you can.

  9. Knead some food coloring in as desired (optional).

  10. Flatten your "dough" and use the cookie cutters to cut out some shapes.

  11. Let your shapes dry for 24-48 hours until hardened.

  12. Color and doodle over them with markers to your heart's desire!
